The Deskstar 25GP has an Ultra ATA/66 interface that provides data transfer rates up to 66.6MB per second. To take advantage this transfer rate, you will need to connect the drive to an Ultra ATA/66 controller with a 40-pin, 80 conductor cable.* If your system has an older IDE interface, you can still use this drive in your system, but it will be limited to data transfer speeds of your controller.

The Deskstar 25GP states a media transfer rate up to 195.6Mbits per second, a 2MB cache, an average seek time of 9ms, and a 5400RPM spindle speed to further enhance overall drive performance. This model stores up to 25GB of data.

The Deskstar 25GP features IBM's Magnetoresistive (MR) head technology and No-ID sector formatting technologies, increasing the amount of data stored on each disk surface and reducing the number of disks and heads required for a given capacity. With fewer heads and disks per gigabyte, the drive uses less power and generates less heat and sound. In addition, its partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) digital data channel increases its media-to-buffer and buffer transfer rates.

The 3.5-inch, low-profile Deskstar is Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) compliant to help prevent data loss and provide advance warning of drive failures. It also features IBM's Drive Fitness Test (DFT), which helps you isolate system failures to reduce the likelihood of returning your drive unnecessarily.
